Abstract

Culinary tourism is a rapidly growing trend, with an increasing number of tourists eager to explore local and traditional flavors. Many countries leverage their culinary heritage to promote and develop their tourism industry. The main aim of this study was to determine whether Bulgarian cuisine can serve as a motivation for traveling to the country and to assess its attractiveness among those who have visited Bulgaria at least once. These aspects were examined through a survey distributed in Facebook groups dedicated to enthusiasts of this Balkan region. Respondents were asked about the number of trips they had taken to Bulgaria, their preferred types of dining establishments, and the dishes and products they associate with the country. They were also invited to evaluate specific dishes and products and to assess their knowledge of culinary events. The results confirmed that Bulgarian cuisine is wellliked by visitors and can indeed serve as a travel motivation. Moreover, the findings suggest that Bulgaria holds significant potential for the further development of culinary tourism.
