Festivals as a tourist attraction and a factor in the development of tourism and local entrepreneurship on the example of the Pol’and’Rock Festival in Kostrzyn on the Oder

Festival tourism is one of the main aspects influencing the development of the touristic areas the festivals are organized in. Festivals occur worldwide, and are more and more often picked as the leisure activity of choice. Their variety and rich set of attractions intended for the participants aim to attract as many tourists as possible, who have the possibility of, besides taking part in the event, to explore the area historically, culturally, etc. In this article the history of the Woodstock festival in Poland was discussed, and a precise description of the event was made. The main goal of the article is to illustrate the evaluation of the influence of festival tourism on the development of the Kostrzyn city and on the activity of the local mercantile and service entrepreneurships, related to the organization of the festival. In the article, the results of the questionnaires, in which the respondents evaluated the development of the touristic-service and technical infrastructure, local authorities’ activity related to the festival’s organization and security, the change in behaviour of the city’s residents during the event, the changes in finances of the entrepreneurs, and the advantages of the event, where shown.
