Oasis retreats as a form of religious tourism in the light of contemporary demographic changes: a case study of the Archdiocese of Przemyśl

The article examines the impact of modern demographic changes on oasis holiday retreats organized within the Archdiocese of Przemyśl. Classifying this form of leisure as religious tourism helps to better understand the nature of these trips and the characteristics of their participants. Contemporary demographic trends, such as population aging, secularization, and changes in the traditional family model, significantly influence the annual participation levels. Another crucial factor is the broader global and local context affecting public health. For instance, the COVID-19 pandemic completely halted the organization of oasis retreats. These relationships were established through surveys and an analysis of statistical data on these retreats, provided by the Light-Life Movement of the Archdiocese of Przemyśl. The aim of this study is to classify oasis retreats within the framework of tourism and to analyze the impact of demographic changes on their structure within the Archdiocese of Przemyśl. This will be achieved by reviewing literature and statistical data, including the number of participants, their gender, age, and the level of retreat they attended between 2013 and 2022. Additionally, survey results from oasis retreat participants in the Archdiocese of Przemyśl will be examined and compared with national demographic trends over specific years.
