Religious symbols on flags and national coats of arms of states of contemporary world
Keywords:
coat of arms, country, flag, religion, worldAbstract
The appearance and basic symbolism displayed on flags and national coats of arms of states is an important topic in geography, especially political geography. The colors and graphic details of many national flags and coats of arms refers to religion because - formerly and now - religious beliefs have a strong influence on the development of societies. Symbols of all the great world religions - Christianity and Islam are presented on almost 70 flags and 80 national coats of arms of countries of the modern world. Religious symbols placed on the flags and coats of arms: refer to the religious traditions of a nation, symbolically define the religious residents, “identify” state religion, may be the motto of religious tolerance. The inscriptions on the flags, and the motto of the national coat of arms refer directly to God or to specific ethical and religious values.References
